Parole, housing, rehabilitation topics of CIM resource provider fair

The recent Center Point Reentry Hub Providers Fair was hailed as a success by organizers.
Offered for the inmates at Facility D at the California Institution for Men (CIM), there were several educational presentations on available resources.
Some of the resources included Employment Opportunities, Education, Job Training, Aftercare Placement, Transitional Housing, Day Reporting Centers and Family Support Services. There were also full descriptions of how each provider and their services can work for inmates.
There was a great deal of information available focusing on rehabilitation upon release from prison facilities.
Contract Providers and Parole Agents from the Division of Adult Parole Operation reviewed details about Proposition 47 and the support services for Parolees upon release.
According to organizers, it was well received by inmates who previously had no information on Proposition 47 or Parole Service Centers (PSC).
They also learned about Day Reporting Centers in Pomona, San Diego, Santa Ana and Stockton.
Probation Officers from Orange County and Riverside County answered questions about being released on Probation, and gave details on Flash Incarceration (up to 10 days in local jails), formal revocation proceedings for probation violations, what steps come with this condition, and how to discharge successfully from Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) by completing six to 12 months positive probation.
Other services needed by inmates were presented such as Housing, Treatment Programs and Sober Living Environments.
Three of the new Specialized Treatments for Optimized Programming (STOP-Center Point, Inc.), Mental Health Services, and Area V-Community Education Centers (CEC) providers attended the fair, and reviewed the full range of services provided by STOP. These services include providing Aftercare Placement, comprehensive residential and services supporting the parolee’s needs for housing, substance abuse treatment, cognitive behavioral intervention, employment, education, family relations and community referrals.
Residential Programs which provide Community-Based Treatment were on hand as well. These included the Ella Foundation, which is committed to helping the community by connecting people with reliable housing for AB109/PRCS Probation clients upon release, U.S. Vets with a range of services for military veterans and Weingart Center (an AB109 program) and Amity Foundation, a community based treatment provider. Friends Outside also attended.
The newly started Transitions Program from the San Bernardino County-Workforce Development Unit and BI Incorporated GEO Reentry Services covering most of California’s Day Reporting Centers also presented information to the inmates.
Many of the inmates thanked CIM staff for their efforts.
Organizers thanked CIM Warden Tim Perez for allowing staff from the various programs the permission to enter CIM and make the presentations.
